Silicone sponge boasts all the same environmental stability, chemical and temperature resistance as solid silicone, but has the extra benefits of phenomenal compression set and added flexibility making it perfect for sealing and gasketing applications.
As a material silicone is a great thermal insulator, this is because it is a blown material, meaning that the cells within stop the transfer of heat very well. They also have a very high resistance to heat with many silicone foam rubbers capable of going above 180 degrees celsius.
